The Possible NBA Referee Scandal

Remember this name: Tim Donaghy

Don't know it? Not surprised, but I have a feeling you will before it's all said and done.

Mr. was a Referee with the National Basketball Association. And, he's been accused of gambling on NBA games, and FIXING games in which he refereed.

This is BIG TIME, folks. This story has it all: sports, money, gambling, THE MOB. It's just itching for a Movie-Of-The-Week treatment.

NBA Commissioner David Stern came out today that Mr. Donaghy was the ONLY Referee involved in fixing games. While that might be true, Mr. Donaghy has just retained the services of a lawyer known for representing WHISTLEBLOWERS, and the FBI is very interested in what Mr. Donaghy has to say.

As a fan, there is little, in this jaded, overexposed era in sports that people cling to, but I do believe fair officiating is one of those things. Oh, you might believe while watching that a certain call didn't go the way for your team, but as my father told me, ' you get some calls one night, and then other nights, the other team gets them. It all balances out. '

But, in Mr. Donaghy's case, it didn't all balance out. It didn't balance out at all. THE FIX WAS IN.

I don't know whether to hope that it's true and Mr. Donaghy IS the only one....or, to wish for him being the tip of the iceberg. There are so many critters under the rocks of professional sports; I would love for them to begin crawling out- one by one.
