UN Security Council Approves Sanctions On Iran

The UN Security Council has approved watered down sanctions against Iran.

This is unlikely to resolve the issue. It is most likely the beginning of a series of events that will eventually lead to a military confrontation....either with the Bush administration or with the next U.S. President.

The dispute also has the potential to start a shooting war between some of the worlds major powers within the next few years.

The UN Security Council will likely have to return to this issue within the next year for tougher sanctions. However, Russia and China (members of the P-5) are unlikely to support tougher sanctions. The only reason that they supported the current sanctions was because the sanctions were watered's more symbolic than practical.
