The VP Debate - Your thoughts?

My favorite answer from Biden tonight.

Vice President Cheney has been the most dangerous vice president we've had probably in American history. The idea he doesn't realize that Article I of the Constitution defines the role of the vice president of the United States, that's the Executive Branch. He works in the Executive Branch. He should understand that. Everyone should understand that.

And the primary role of the vice president of the United States of America is to support the president of the United States of America, give that president his or her best judgment when sought, and as vice president, to preside over the Senate, only in a time when in fact there's a tie vote. The Constitution is explicit.

The only authority the vice president has from the legislative standpoint is the vote, only when there is a tie vote. He has no authority relative to the Congress. The idea he's part of the Legislative Branch is a bizarre notion invented by Cheney to aggrandize the power of a unitary executive and look where it has gotten us. It has been very dangerous.

Amen, Ride or Die Joe.
Amen.

Biden's Emotional Moment

IMO, what Palin showed last night is that she is very capable of memorizing and spouting reich-wing talking points, Over-and-Over again, with snarky and "folksy" comments woven into her blather delivered with a fake-azz *smile*_the goal being to disarm and throw her opponent off balance while she's slicing and dicing, if you will.

And indeed, I think her strategy worked for her (to a degree) against Biden_but only for the first 30 minues of the debate, while Biden took time to size her up.

About 30-35 minutes into the debate Biden had figured out her game plan and he determined that there really is NO substance to the woman, NO real depth of understanding on ANY issue_NONE at all_he took command of the debate and owned it from that point on.

McSenile really should be ashamed of himself. Bad enough he's obviously a deeply Flawed man. But he really thinks Nothing of this country he claims to love so much by nominationg such a person as Palin for his VP!

Found this over at DailyKos in the comments section:

My husband and I both (0+ / 0-)
watched the debate. He's not that interested in politics but because of all of the hype and of course me bleating about it decided to check it out. He was pretty quiet through the whole thing and didn't show much reaction except for the gosh golly gee winking parts which caused some pretty strong cringe reactions. After her non reaction to Biden's emotional comment about his family he just stated "Yep" and nodded his head as if he was confirming something to himself. After the shot at the end of her actions with Trig he said, "Yep" again and turned to me and said, "So you want my professional assessment?"
You see he's a professional profiler with close to thirty years of experience in the field of anti-terrorism and security. It's his job to assess people. His assessment? She shows all the behavior and signs of a classic sociopathic personality.
He went on to explain it in more detail. Pretty scary

Biden just ignored her as anything but a body on the stage and went after McCain, and because she's too fucking stupid to say anything not on her index cards, Biden could pound away on McCain unchecked.

Biden did what he had to do... but I don't know if that matters.

The Beauty Queen is somehow seen as competent because she didn't completely fall on her face?

The expectations for her performance were almost zero. The Republican strategy, as I predicted, was to spin this thing as a win for her....if she survived the night. Just as I have been saying all week... all she had to do was show up and not collapse on stage.

There was one debate.... but two different yardsticks for determining who did well.

As I pointed out before the debate.... it was going to be a style over substance strategy, and that's exactly what the Republicans went for.

Somehow by muddling through and completing a few run-on sentences she redeemed herself among doubters in her own corrupt Party.... but I am not sure she cleared up doubts among independents. Certainly not this one. I thought she was a phony and an idiot who was unqualified for the position before, and I feel the same way now.

I listened to the Post-Phony Debate call-in via NPR, and one idiot caller after another remarked about how great Palin's "style" was....how they related to her.

America is full of idiots... so when she made mistakes on complex issues, such as foreign policy, folks didn't notice. American voters, on the whole, are just as clueless about the world and about complex domestic issues as Sarah Palin is, so the McCain camp felt confident that they could lie their way through the event.

Once again, the Republicans have shown how well they understand the American electorate. They understand that the electorate is so clueless that they can get away with glossing over details and lying about facts.... just string together some nice sounding slogans, and get through the night...and everything will be fine. And it worked.

This is the USA at its worst... it's one of the things I hate most about this Country... that we have a voting public (and media) that is so clueless about what the Hell is going on in the World that they will Fall for any gimmick... and drag the rest of us down in the process, and we always collectively have to pay the Piper for the voting decisions that these idiots make every 4 years. The rest of us become collateral damage to the boneheads at the ballot box. This is why I am an independent and why I feel like I am in hostile territory in my own damn Country... hostile in that I am constantly surrounded by the underinformed and misinformed masses (that's being too generous).

It makes me want to move to Canada.... although living there won't make me immune from the bullshit emanating from this Country.

Something else I noticed last night... we are in the Middle of a Financial crisis, our paychecks are worth less, healthcare costs are out of control, it's getting harder to find a good job that would allow access to a Middle Class lifestyle, we are in two wars...soon to be more, and there were several idiot callers who were narrowly concerned about abortion (the complaint was...there was not enough focus on that...of course it was a Palin supporter), gay marriage, and religion.

Unbelievable!

It's a bizarre night when a man can clearly win a debate...has a command of all the important issues and can run circles around an opponent, but the opponent (who only put together a couple of complete sentences the entire night) comes out looking better because of "style". It says more about the American voter than it does about who was better on the stage.

I don't think the debates will matter all that much in the end, because we are dealing with an extremely ignorant electorate.

If you recall, Kerry beat Bush in three debates in 2004, but still lost the election. Americans are not looking at who would be the best person for the job based on knowledge of facts, platforms, etc... because the American voters don't have the information to be able to make that decision. Instead, they revert to a style test.... and based on the style test, Palin did well... better than expected....although disaster was the expectation....therefore she couldn't fail.

I need to take a break from all the Palin Bull... because if folks aren't better informed about this dingbat at this point... then nothing is going to change their minds. Same with McCain. I think Biden did a better job last night hitting McCain than Obama did.... MUCH better. That's one of the main benefits of having a Biden on the ticket. He knows the issues and will rarely allow his opponent to get away with lies and Bull.... slogans.

Although I am not crazy about Obama/Biden (hate the pro-war foreign policy they have in store for us)... they represent the lesser of the two evils. This election is a choice between the Demon and the Devil (as all phony U.S. elections are)....I'll root for the Demon, to save myself from the Devil... but I won't be voting for either one.

The ideal for me would be for both Parties to go to Hell... while we build a Third Party (maybe even more) up here in the real world.

As you can see Rikyrah... this Country gives me fits.

Should I bother counting the mistakes and lies from Palin? I won't this time... because it doesn't matter. Americans are so f---ing stupid... there is no point in fact-checking anymore.

Besides, no one reads this blog anyway... outside of perhaps 3 people (and I appreciate them). despite all the optimization shit I have been trying to do.

P.S.

I'm going to take a few days off...

Please keep me entertained with all the MSM spin and idiocy surrounding Sarah Palin, Joe Biden and this Bull---- election.

Also, the debate provided, yet, another stark example_for ALL the world_of just how far backwards America has gone.

The fact that the likes of both, George W. Bush and Sarah Palin, were obviously given PASSES throughout their lives, which allowed them to rise to greats heights in the U.S. government, based pretty much on NOTHING of concrete, OR intellectual, or Intelligent, OR substantive value_ but primarily on Lies, deceptions, bullying tactics and FUMES (additionally in Dubya’s case, on daddy's money and connections)__as an American I find it quite embarrassing and disturbing!

I think it's a very, Very dangerous state of affairs!

Biden's show of emotion revealed his human side and did more to connect to voters than Palin's Hockey Mom routine.

Her response (or lack thereof) to Biden's family tragedy spoke volumes.

Biden clearly won the debate, besting Palin on every important issue.

A friend was texting me throughout the debate last night. All he could do is talk about how can anyone think anything other than Biden is killing this woman. I disagreed.

I disagreed because I know and work with some whites who find that "ah shucks" bulls*** appealing, connecting, and feel refreshed that one of "their own" is speaking for & to them. And not all of them are idiots. Let me give you some background.

I'm an african american. So is my friend but he is an isolationist so to speak. What I mean is he doesn't talk to whites unless he has to. Even though he has a college degree, he refuses to even begin to try examine his own paradigms so he can have a better chance of understanding others. He can't understand that, just like black folk, whites can be "ah-shucked" and "winked-n-nodded" into hearing anything. Our, "ah shucks" come in the form of (I'm not going to run down the litany of slang-buzz words that politicians use to "connect" w/ black folk) popular slang today. I've heard countless local and national black politicians do the same thing and to my amazement, get elected.

Palin's the "no she di'nt" for whites. She's the white politician dancing to hip-hop while our ppl ooh, ahh, Heeeyyy, for whites. The smile, the wink, the folksiness, while saying nothing to most of the intelligent white voters spoke louder than you know to the rural, small town, booger-eaters. And she spoke to the couldn't care less upper middle class whites who just wanna take their boats to the lake and get loaded. No one should be surprised by this if you look at what turns on the ill-informed african-american voter.

Having said all that, I was disappointed. I knew that the same ppl. who, w/o knowing s*** about this woman 2 months ago, would cling to her like was a savior and in the process create buzz for a campaign that was sinking. It still may die but I wanted a dagger through the heart. Instead, he let the beast live, which in a close contest, could be a major mistake given that's the only time we had to expose her.

I wasn't looking for Biden to trip her up but body slam her. And while doing so seriously calling into question McCains competency & descision making. Instead, like Barak (and my heart knows what they are doing speaks to our hopes for some integrity in U.S. politics) he took the high road instead if delivering the blows that could have ended the fight.

Trust me yall, there are enough gullible, undecided whites out there to turn this around. It ain't over.

BTW AI, long time read, just signed up so I gues you've got 1 more to add to the 3 or 1000 readers you have of this blog.

the VP debate was stunning. Palin did a decent job faking about 20% of the questions and didn't even bother answering the other 80%.

i couldn't help thinking of the end of the movie Billy Madison, when the debate moderator says to Adam Sandler, "Mr. Madison, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul."

Mod 2,

(Side note) I think it is great that you put this video on your blog. Men, esp. black men, are often not taken seriously as parents, and that often has been my experience as a father of two daughters. It is also liberating for men to be able to show emotion and love for their children, although we are limited to extreme circumstances.

No one was suprised that Biden won. It is so obvious that McCain's choice of Palin is a desperate long pass.
