Goldman Sachs gives Morehouse $2 million for MLK chair

Investment bank Goldman Sachs is endowing a $2 million dollar chair at Morehouse College.

The Goldman Sachs Leadership Chair in Civil and Human Rights will be responsible for the collection of papers belonging to Martin Luther King, Jr., that were bought by a consortium last year before they were to be placed on the auction block.

Every now and then (very rarely) corporate America does something meaningful. Good for the company and for the college.

I remember being blown away by the earlier story of the King family going ahead with an auction.

Fortunately, someone stepped in at the very last second to stop the auction and make other arrangements.

A lot of history was almost lost. Or it would have at least been scattered all over the country, some never to be seen again.

The idea of an auction for MLK artifacts is so unconscionable that it never should have been considered IMO.

To be honest, Angry Independent, those kids have, well, dare I say it, been wanting to get rich off of their father's legacy for years.

Cynthia Tucker from the Journal-Constitution has been brutal on the King Family. In the beginning, I thought she was too harsh on them, but not anymore.

I was very pleased that folks arranged for the papers to go to Morehouse. That was the best place for them.
