If true, Obama is SO playing chess....BWA HA HA HA HA

(wouldn't even look him in the eye- P.A.B.)

This is from Talking Points Memo:

Humiliated

Jonathan Weisman has a fascinating, even riveting narrative of what went down in Washington on Thursday as John McCain made his play to commandeer the high-level negotiations over the bailout bill. And TPM Reader TW called my attention to a passage that may help to explain the smoldering hostility that made it impossible for McCain even to make eye contact with Barack Obama during last night's debate.

We pick up Weisman in that big meeting at the White House ...

Pelosi said Obama would speak for the Democrats. Though later he would pepper Paulson with questions, according to a Republican in the room, his initial point was brief: "We've got to get something done."

Bush turned to McCain, who joked, "The longer I am around here, the more I respect seniority." McCain then turned to Boehner and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) to speak first.

Boehner was blunt. The plan Paulson laid out would not win the support of the vast majority of House Republicans. It had been improved on the edges, with an oversight board and caps on the compensation of participating executives. But it had to be changed at the core. He did not mention the insurance alternative, but Democrats did. Rep. Barney Frank (D-Mass.), chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, pressed Boehner hard, asking him if he really intended to scrap the deal and start again.

No, Boehner replied, he just wanted his members to have a voice. Obama then jumped in to turn the question on his rival: "What do you think of the [insurance] plan, John?" he asked repeatedly. McCain did not answer.

One Republican in the room said it was clear that the Democrats came into the meeting with a "game plan" aimed at forcing McCain to choose between the administration and House Republicans. "They had taken McCain's request for a meeting and trumped it," said this source.

Congressional aides from both parties were standing in the lobby of the West Wing, unaware of the discord inside the Cabinet room, when McCain emerged alone, shook the hands of the Marines at the door and left. The aides were baffled. The plan had been for a bipartisan appearance before the media, featuring McCain, Obama and at least a firm statement in favor of intervention. Now, one of the leading men was gone.

Assuming this is an accurate portrayal of events, it may help explain some of what happened last night.

Now ladies and gentlemen, Senator Country Last's arrogance knows no bounds. He doublecrosses Obama and tries to grandstand, and just thought Obama was gonna sit down and take it. Why? Cause he's John McCain?

G-T-F-O-H

He's mad that Obama didn't go along with the humiliation that he and Shrub had cooked up.

Aweeeeee. Poor baby.

Beautiful!

Obama & Co. knew that Paulson would be against the phony plan put forth by Republicans. Their plan would not be enough to restore confidence in the financial sector, and even they know it. So Obama knew that the Republicans were putting on a show. They simply want to put forth some sort of plan (no matter how flimsy) so that they can tell their constituents that they tried... In other words, they want to save face. So McCain was trapped. That's why he got the Hell out of there. If he would have supported the phony Republican plan... it would have been a failed piece of legislation that would not have made much impact.... if he supported the Paulson plan, he would have been forced to support a huge nearly $700 billion tax increase (at least temporarily), and would have been forced to side with the Bush administration once again. He had no good options.

McCain's insistence on being there (when he had no real involvement in the actual negotiations), and his grandstanding last week... all backfired.

McCain has this complex... this desire to be another Ronald Reagan... And the fact that he will never be a Reagan is killing him inside. lol. It causes him to make these irrational decisions and take these big gambles that a normal Presidential candidate (even other Senior Senators) probably wouldn't take.

Interesting how McCains folks tried to make Obama look like the spoiler...or that he couldn't hold the meeting together.
Fact is... Obama didn't even want to be there...he wanted to be in the battleground States, getting some time in. Obama's initial reaction (which was probably correct) was to stay informed on what was taking place...but to keep a distance from Washington to let the Congressional leaders and committee members (and negotiators) hammer out a deal. He understood that bringing the campaign to D.C. for a photo op at such a delicate moment would be a distraction... and it was. They probably lost a full day of vital negotiating time (at least) because of McCain's antics..

This past week and a half has been crazy... Even Ben Bernanke, and several other experts have used the "D" word for the first time (when describing possible conditions).

That is damn near unprecedented... it is certainly unprecedented in modern times. I don't even recall that kind of language being used in 1987 (although I was concerned about other things back in 87, lol... Oh the Good Old Days), and I don't recall it being used after the Savings and Loan situation or after 9/11. I guess there was enough liquidity then to keep things running smoothly... larger companies were able to swallow up failing ones, without much trouble, and companies were able to get access to Capital. Plus gas and other costs were not quite as high back then either.

The next big issue that we will have to watch for is inflation.

"If true Obama is SO palying chess"

BINGO!!!

...and it's funy because I just said to my best friend, following the debate Friday night...

"I'll bet Obama plays chess because he's such a master of Strategic-thinking and that's a thinking man's game."

My gut feeling tells me things are most likely gonna get Crazier before we really begin to climb our way out of all this mess! I'm expect all kinds of_"do NOT speak it"_WORDS to come flying outta people's mouths before it's all said and done!

I also want to add_I pay those lying schmucks in DC (aka ReThuglicRats) NO mind.

Simply put, I don’t believe the $700 billion dollar bailout is going to work.

This country has been living waay beyond its means for decades. Apparently, OTHER countries were willing to “carry” us (feeling that it was in their best interest) and America was able to keep up the “illusion” of endless wealth and prosperity _to say nothing of the strength of our military.

Suffice it to say that "those days are GONE"_“the jig is up” and America’s time of “Reckoning” is here, militarily, economically and politically.

As an American, I certainly "Hope" the majority of Americans have had "Enough" and on November 4th cast their votes for the Future and NOT the past. IF they're smart enough to do that, Obama WILL be our next President!
