Latest on Republican Congressional Scandal

Latest events:

-- Right wing Republican spokespeople from the State-Run American Radio & TV media have been on an all out blitz, defending Republicans. They have been passing on lies and misinformation. But most of this misinformation has been debunked so far.

--Right wingers are now tampering with witnesses in a Federal investigation (I thought this was illegal?). Republican media henchmen have gone on a mission to expose the identities of these pages so that they will be threatened & attacked (both in the media, as well as physically threatened). This is all aimed at intimidating these witnesses so that they will be reluctant to come forward & cooperate in the investigations.

--More pages have now come forward.

--Hastert refuses to step down. This may be a gift for Democrats, because this will provide them with a target all the way up until election day in November.

--Hastert was apparently well aware of situation with Mark Foley and did not act to protect the minors working in the page program. Parents are now looking for answers.

According to Foleys former chief of staff, Kirk Fordham, (who resigned this week), he reported Foley's behavior to the Republican leadership.

I have heard of at least 4 different dates when information about Foley was passed up to the Congressional leadership or when Congressional leaders should have been made aware.

1995, 2001, 2003, & 2005. And within some of these years there may have been multiple warnings or red flags, which should have sparked a thorough investigation. At least 3 different people so far have said that they reported problems to the Republican leadership. But Hastert and others claim that they didn't know???? I smell something fishy!

-- An ethics Committee investigation has begun (likely to whitewash situation for members of Congress...which is what usually happens with these Congressional investigations).
