Michelle Obama Compared to Gorilla

A Republican Operative in South Carolina was reportedly caught making disparaging remarks against First Lady Michelle Obama, comparing her to a Gorilla. The comments were left on Facebook and were apparently a response to local news reports about an Ape escaping from the local zoo.

According to FITSNews, former State Senate candidate Rusty DePass made a comment on Friday on the Internet site Facebook, describing the escaped gorilla at Riverbanks Zoo as an "ancestor" to First Lady Michelle Obama.

The comment was made after Trey Walker, an advisor to SC Attorney General Henry McMaster, posted a Facebook update about the escaped animal at the zoo. DePass posted a comment stating, "I'm sure it's just one of Michelle's ancestors - probably harmless."

The Facebook entry was quickly removed, but someone supposedly was able to obtain a screen capture:

Will Republican politicians be forced by the media to reject and denounce Mr. DePass?

I am disgusted. And every Republican, heck every American who doesn't feel like this racists DePass feel should speak up. What in HELL is funny about saying someone is a Gorilla? What if someone said that about DePass's wife or children? Would he fine that funny? Okay Govenor Mark Sanford, Senator Linsey Graham, what do you guys have to say? Is it funny comparing our First Lady to a gorilla? Laura Bush never was disrespected like that. I wouldn't insult a gorilla by comparing it to that racists idiot, DePass.

The truth is a segment of White American's feel this way! they cannot deal with the fact that a BLACK MAN is in their WHITE HOUSE, they are spilling over with HATRED, and yes it break's my heart to hear thing's like this, but, it has to come out in the open, we are witnessing history, the White Man is forced to take a long hard look at themselve's, and it's UGLY, this has been going on since slavery, they do not want to share power! they don't know how to, they alway's thought they were the dominant RACE, so we need to sit back and watch how they will continue to spill over, let's pray for the PRESIDENT and his family, for we are truly dealing with a RACE of people that refuse to go forward, they would rather to see America go under than see a BLACK FAMILY in the WHITE HOUSE!

you talk about whites being racist, read your history and you will see that your own race sold you into slavery,it may not be the right thing to say about anyone, but, its called free speach.BLACK OR WHITE !!!!

Most amazing to me is not this dude's clearcut racism. It's the lame ass apology he offers after the fact. 'Michelle said it first'?!?! WTF?!? Is that seriously the best he could come up with?!

"Truth: Stranger than Fiction." The new motto for the GOP.

The "your race is racist because you sold your won people into slavery" argument is held by racist whites and gets used as often as possible. Based on this logic, it could be argued that the Jews hated their own people because the Judenrat (jewish police) led their fellows jews into the gas chambers. This type of arguement makes white people feel better. Makes them feel as if they are exhonerated. What is funny (if there is such a thing when it comes to racism) is that the contention amongst whites was the blacks were ignorant & barbaric, yet the "your people sold you into slavery" debate, almost gives blacks the power and intellect to have masterminded the slave trade. We couldnt have been dumb and smart at the same time? It's like the new argument that Obama is both a racist Christian and a Muslim. Anything to make them feel better, which is typical.

It's a blessing in disguise when politicians (or anyone in a position of any power) make comments like his. It alerts the general public to their immoral, idiotic, unsophisticated, narrow-minded, boorish, and/or racist tendencies. Better to find out now BEFORE he steps into higher office. And it is even more atrocious that he has made such a disrespectful reference directed at the First Lady. I dare speculate that she has accomplished many more integral and benevolent endeavors in her lifetime than has he. Let's just hope he has learned something through this 'accomplishment' of his, and then he and this story fade into obscurity. He is an embarrasment to the Republican Party.

Its simple there are people out there who think that what they type on the internet wont be traced back to them. DePass got caught with his pants down and to add insult to injury he makes a half assed apology

Tribe members, did trade their own, to other Tribe members in Africa & to the Portuguese originally . For goods and services, These "sales" if you want to call them that, where originally between Africa & the Portuguese. Enslavement in many African societies, had strict doctrine on how traded slaves where to be treated. They (in Africa & Europe) were allowed to marry, could purchase property & even marry into the "holding" family. Consider the likes of a live in Nanny or servant. The Spanish & the White European immigrants captured & barbarically separated African's from their homeland during the 1st passages. Sometimes casting the dying slaves overboard on the grueling 6 month journey across the ocean! Spaniards & White Europeans did this (beginning in the 1600's), because the land in America was harsh & untamed. They needed someone to do the grunt work to establish the land,The European immigrant could NOT do this back breaking work. Learn the history folks.

A good book to read: Africans in America, America's Journey through Slavery. by: Charles Johnson, Patricia Smith, and the WGBH series research team.

Sorry to pee on your bonfire but this was reported on Fox yesterday evening. While it may sound like a racist remark it does not appear to be intended as one. DePass not a rascist or a fool and knows only too well a remark such as that made with racist intentions could finish him. If Michelle did make a remark about gorillas it will be recorded somewhere and will be verified. Stop getting your panties in a wad. As for Laura Bush not being disrespected...are you kidding me? The vilfication of the Bush family by the left has been shameful to say the least.

Get a grip you hypocrites, the left spent 8 years calling GWB a chimp.

Andre said...

@ HB: OK dude/dudette/whatever. Pencils down.

In the interest of brevity, I'll get right to the point: using chimps, apes, monkeys, etc. in referernce to black people has HISTORICALLY had racist implications. THAT's why people are incensed.

*By the way, the folks on "the left" who called Bush chimps were mostly...wait for it...white folks insulting another WHITE person. There were no racial implications to be made there. I'm not saying it was any less wrong. I mean, disrespecting ANY POTUS like that (even one as bad as Bush) is wrong. Even I have had to come to grips with that...and I can't STAND Bush.
