Stop hating on hip hop. Listen to the messages and don't pay any attention to the videos. And as far as the ladies in the videos, if they fill they are being exploited then they have the right to say no. More so than that find a new line of work. There are thousands of jobs out there.

I'm DISGUSTED with the rappers of today. It's disgusting and degrading to the black culture that these men can sit here on national television and talk about "diving" in however many women they please. It's DISGUSTING because as a beautiful black woman I feel as if every black man who sees me immediately plays those songs in his head prior to approaching me and God forbid that I turn him down. I become a hater, or a hoe..and if I do accept his approach I am still considered a hoe until he realizes that he's not getting any from me. Young boys listen to this music and become infatuated with the lyrics, the lifestyle, and twisted mentality that is portrayed in the music. The devil uses these rappers well. He takes a heavenly bass, corrupt yet gifted lyricists, intertwines them and creates a musical hell for the world. I'm 21 years old, and I cannot tolerate rap music being played in my house, my car, no not even my ears. At one point I went out to the club scene slightly often, and the only way I could ever enjoy the music was to be totally drunk. Thank God those days are over. What is America that it can say In God we trust, yet allow such disrespect among the people. What is a black man worth when he can not even respect the black woman who birthed him? The music has become so bad that women are trying to get in on it to retaliate against what these black rappers "preach and teach." I have NO respect for any of them, and they ought to add to the CD cover: "Warning..this album may increase your chances of catching AIDS if you act on what we say." My trust level, and respect for young black men in America is at an all time low..especially when you hear them driving around in their cars blasting these DISGUSTING songs that are being played every 20 minutes on the radio and Cd's. I have something to say to my young black boys in America..Don't let the devil use rappers to hasten the destruction of your soulish realm, which is your mind, body, and spirit. Become a better man because only weak men speak of such hideous things to a nation full of his own people who suffer enough through low income, and low self-esteems. I beg you..please help to lift your people. Don't keep digging holes for us all to fall in. Black people have a hard time keeping families together, and rapping about promiscuity, drugs, weapons, murder, and bling-bling is the best way for our culture to continue to be stagnant. The devil has successfully destroyed the black civilization, and rappers are his biggest FORMED weapons. Will we ever regain unity and love of self, or will we continue to destroy the tiny culture we have left? When will you rappers come out of the devil's office and actually help your people? When will you take a step out of that smoky room your in and open your eyes to the destruction of self that you have caused among your black brothers? When will you allow God into your music, and kick satan out? When my brothers because your sisters are in pain..mothers are in pain. When will you all become strong men and not weak men created by America?

I have listened to the messages.. I've printed out sheets of their music to read. The message is very clear... they sell violence, hatred, promiscuity, and death. They are the creations of a hateful nation, and are proud of it. Welcome to America!

It seems that hip hop has taken a new direction since the 2000s of what is deemed "cool". these lyrics, just like any larger influence, program whoever listens to them. TV, Radio Stations, Popular Websites all promote this new age of Rap music. The lyrics are about theft, disrespect (not limited to women) to everyone, violence = badass/cool peacefulness = "pussy" or "soft". I believe this music has been promoted for the reason of mind programming a mass of America. It has worked.

Rap makes the mind bland. It robs you of love, spirit and creativity, and that's all some people seem to listen to anymore. Like their brainwashed. Men who only listen to rap don't impress me at all. I find that as repulsive as a man who only listens to hardcore country music all the time. Like my meals, my music must be well balanced.

I think you are all stereotyping rap music as the modern commercialized crap we have today. Rap used to be a noble genre of music which described the struggles faced when living in the slums or ghettos. This is true rap. The corporations simply decided to sell rap music according to the developing stereotype of drugs, sex, and women. Those are the enemies of true rap.

Here is a list of enemies of true rap which have adulterated what rap truly is:
Eminem
50 Cent
Jay-Z
The large majority of BET

This is a list of true rappers. Rappers who's peaks were before rap music sold out. Rappers who I guarantee, do not demean women. These are some rappers you should research and listen to Allison from Albany,NY:
Grandmaster Flash and the Furious 5
Afrika Bambaataa
Run DMC

Rappers are not Satan's spawn, it is the record companies and the corporations who make money by perpetuating negative African-American stereotypes through rap who are Satan's true spawn.

First of all rap is not music, it is a form of art. Lets not make the mistake of giving a rapper the illusion that he would know anything about music theory please. I blame the radio stations for allowing this virus to spread. I feel sorry for the man who limits himself to thinking that the lifestyle is true. Ya just might end up dead or in the slammer. Pay attention to the ones who are getting out of jail and searching for change. Spread my word.

Why does anyone listen to this terrible music? Well actually it's obvious, it's so weak minded men can feel like supermen. Other than that it is just internally bankrupt. Repetitive, unimaginative bass lines, fatuous lyrics and rappers whose main desire (other than the obvious) is to look and sound as stupid as they can so they appeal to equally stupid people who listen to the rubbish. It's to grow up and admit the truth...this music is just crap.

Anonymous said...

Rap music sucks! All they ever talk about is sex, violence, drugs and money and how to do it while Rock music tells you only how to deal with it. Rap music is so disgusting that I wish I'd resort to listening to Nightwish music or Lacuna Coil music (both of which are Rock music) in my iPod Shuffle. I hate R&B as well cuz it is just as annoying and disgusting as Rap music. However, the only rapper that I actually like is Kanye West cuz it talks about things other than violence, sex, drugs and money. And the only R&B song that I actually like is T-Pain's "Buy U A Drank" cuz that song is truly funny. But I prefer Rock music of every kind over Rap music and R&B music cuz at least every Rock band has lots of talent. Say, even Nightwish's song lyrics are extremely deep and meaningful. Hell, I'd rather listen to Anette Olzon's voice than Rihanna's voice.

Everyone has such a negative opinion of rap music. I get tired of this "Retards Attempting Poetry" joke all the white kids (Yes, I'm naming a RACE that does it because they're the ones who do it, screw being PC.) make constantly. And the T-shirts I see them wearing lately that read "Support the arts, shoot a rapper". Oh, HA HA HA. I get it, because according to YOU morons, rap is just the same old thing every time. How unoriginal, right? Just like every song My Chemical Romance ever wrote, right? "Hey, which MCR song is on? Oh the one about the emo kid? Ok."

And as far as rap being a little more positive, well, I'd like it very much if there were less heinous issues advocated in hip hop, but how does one expect that to happen? I mean if The Government won't stop being evil because of the money, what makes you think rappers are going to stop TALKING about evil things when they get money for it. Also, Life isn't always a big picture of sunshine. And a lot of rappers are just talking about their own experiences or the experiences of people they know. And by the same token, a lot of positive rappers exist. No one cares to mention MURS, NYOIL, Common, or Little Brother, whose videos don't get airplay on BET because they're too intelligent and too positive for their audience. And no one remembers Rick James for being a rock star, they remember him for being a womanizer and a drug addict. And to Allison from NY, I can only say this, The rappers themselves are only a small part of the problem, the record companies, the radio stations, and the fans are the bigger issue. The devil's real evil deed is convincing the world he didn't exist. Therefore, people are believing the evil is harmless. If you really want to know my opinion, I blame the Laffy Taffy more than Any drug or murder anthem. It's the people's blind stupidity that's the problem.

I agree to what most people are saying here. Except that rap is the "devil" But that's just because im nonreligious :) Anyways rap these days are destroying our youth today. I should know as im only 16 years old. I go to school in a wealthy area and it's truly pathetic to walk around the hallways of school hearing rap songs that talk about Drugs, sex, money, and a hard life/childhood. First of all, It's so stupid to see people listening to rap that's talking about a hard childhood, becuase kids in our area don't have any problems compared to some people in this world yet rap songs almost brainwash them to make them pretend that they do. It's just fucking stupid. Although I do believe there is some rap artists that produce "real" music IE Sage Francis <- You should look him up he's really good. But again it's just pathetic to see kids my age that listen to that stupid shallow music, It's just makes it seem like they're so stupid they can't even think for themselves they just listen to what everyone listens too, But I digress as im just starting to rant now.

Anonymous said...

I agree rap today is total bullshit and highly commercialised. Its a way for the white man to use the black man to make some more money with them, and the funny thing is black people dont even realise. Another problem i have with rap music is the ruining of nice luxery porducts by using them with no respect and thought. Just listen to the new song from fabulous, throw it in the bag.... i can not even believe how stupid that song is.

Anonymous said...

I listen to all types of music. some rap songs are OK to dance to to me, but the overall messegas in lyrics are not. another thing that makes me mad is, i like to listen to happy upbeat music like techno, so i get into arguements with ppl who say rap and hip hop are better. But when you listen to music nowadays, they are rapping to techno/electropop sounds. its bullshit. dont criticize my music when its become a mainstream part of yours.

Anonymous said...

Rap is like 7 year olds making up rhymes on the fly - only the 7 year olds probably have a better vocabulary. It's the epitome of what's wrong with our society - we've dumbed down so far.....

Anonymous said...

Most of us agree that the message consistently coming through in the lyrics of rap music is negative and destructive. However, in terms of the quality of the music, Rap is weak and lacking in talent and creativity. I just plain hate the sound of rap music. It does nothing for me. It has poor melodies, appalling vocals and is generally unpleasant to listen to. Black music used to be the best music in the world back in the 60s, 70s and 80s - but now, sadly, its the worst music in the world !

Adam said...

I like some rap music, but I can't stand the sexist "groupies," and "girlies" and "bitches," and "hoes." It's retarded.

Anonymous said...

Honestly, i've given rap a fair chance. I've tried listening to it but it's pretty much the same thing: sex, violence, drugs, "hoes", LOTS of swearing, and being absolutely cocky about themselves. So i've changed over to listening to Alternative and other type of music. Being a black male, I get looked at like I'm crazy when I tell people that i don't listen to it, wear my pants down low, or scream the "n" word every 3 words. This is just a stereotype and I don't feel as if I need to try and conform to this. If I prefer to talk properly, keep my pants up, not do drugs, and keep my job...then that's my preference. I feel as if a lot of people think this is appropriate because a "rapper" said it or does it. I am disgusted the music and the way it betrays black people because that's not who I am and that's not what a lot of people are about. I prefer to keep myself away from that kind of music and listen to something more positive.

Anonymous said...

I hate rap music with a passion. I am a 16 year old black male and people look at me like I am crazy when I say I don't like rap. I don't wear urban gear or sag my pants like an idiot. I listen to heavy metal and yet I get called a sellout for listening to metal and not rap. Screw that.

ch555x said...

My age must be showing, but I prefer rap/hip-hop of the early years and can tolerate it up until the '90s. After that, its pretty much down hill, save a few artists...and please don't give other genres the pass. Just because it looks/sounds "kid-friendly" or even "clean" don't make it so!

Yall are crazy. There is so much great hip hop out there I dont know where to start. As far as music is considered, have you heard of insturmental hip hop like DJ Shadow, RJD2, Prefuse 73, Sixtoo? my first exposure to great hip hop online was Hip Hop Infinity but it no longer exists. Instead I suggest going to a website called rapreviews. There they have a section called the nines. You should check out some of the songs they recommend.

Why is it everytime I stop at a light some shithead pulls up next to me with his sound system going full blast forcing me to listen to this cRAP. The bass makes my entire car vibrate while the dumb ass sits there oblivious to his effect on those around him.
Just from being forced to listen to the bass line I can tell how infantile the cRAP really is.
I swear a 5 year old could be a bass player for a cRAP group. I understand each generation has their own taste in music so if you want to listen to this shit then it's entirely your perogative. JUST DON'T MAKE ME LISTEN TO IT.

once upon time rock was evil...............whats next country. I think its dumb to say a whole genre of music is evil or bad. i could easily say all of america is evil

Anonymous said...

I'm black and I despise not just the music but the whole hip hop culture. In this society (America) if your black you're EXPECTED to act and be a certain way namely from other blacks and if you don't you're severely isolated and ridiculed in one way or another. Fine. Even whites will freak out if you go against what's expected I guess because they need a reality check to fit what society has brainwashed them into believing.
Anyway now that I've said this I'm going to be called a "hater", (which I'm not because the hip hop has nothing I want) or I'll be called gay, (which I'm not but blacks like to call others that who stand out because a lot of those who go around saying "fag" all the time are closeted homos any way who want an excuse to put you down or worse...hit on you) or I'll be called a sell-out, (which I'm not because I'll take a bullet for a complete stranger no matter who they are) or ridiculed in general because i don't conform. It's politically correct to be "black" I guess because of white guilt and it's the trend now. I have heart. I love all people no matter the race individually but like I said I hate the hip hop culture with niggas and wiggas. This shit really needs to be talked about because I was really fucked up over this and other issues I fell through the cracks. We're just now getting to the issue of bullying we need to get to the issue of racial dichotomy and preferences. Niggas and wiggas just want to fuck you up and take your shit it's true. It's stupid.

rap isnt music. its a form of poetry though. I would wish that this poetry would be a bit more sophisticated in its structure. Any Poetry with words like "Slap dat bitch" by some uneducated moron is by default one of the worst forms of poetry in existance. I hear that rap used to be better back in the day or something but currently rap is a cultural disaster for the african american. It just promotes stereotypes that african americans are all about sex, drugs, and "gettn' wit dem bitches" especially since all the other african american genres which didnt focus on such things are now dead. Even the asthetics of soul have been killed and turned into some generic zombie. From an Afro-Cuban perspective, Rap is disasterous. We have other genres instead of rap that still fuel the "silent civil rights movement" such as timba that still combat stereotypes and portray the Afro-Cuban in a positive light. I dont see that anymore with African American music. All they have now is Rap and R&B. And Rap just makes African Americans look bad to the US and the rest of the world.

Unknown said...

I think that the problem is that some rappers with lyrics that might indicate a below average intellegience are promoted over more intelligient acts. There are many talented artists who dont get promoted through the media, or industry because the institiutions dont think they can make money off of them. There are songs about the holocaust, the start of western civilization, criticism of public schools, racism, against misogyn,anti-homophobic, chemistry, biology, math, poltics, foreign affairs etc. but this songs arent promoted because of blaxploitation. You might hear songs about bitches, money and drugs, but the rappers I listen to are rapping about the philosophy of David Hume, Nickol Telsa's poem "fragments of Olympia Gossip Tomb" Rap with smart lyrics exist you just have to know where to look.

Check out this playlist to show you that not all rap is the same.

MURS "this is For" a powerful song that challenges young black men who live through stereotypes and young white men who live as vicarious thugs through Tupac.

Last Emperor "One Life" where he contemplates what happens when he dies? Does he end up as the Buddhist is their a Catholic Purgatory?

Similarly, Eydea's "Step By Step" follow's on a similar theme where he narrates what it would be like if he died and had to choose one of two angels to lead him to heaven.

how about Sage Francis "Conspiracy To Riot" One of the best political raps I've heard in a long time.

if you are interested in the Holocaust check out a song called "Deny" by Josh Martinez. The song looks at the issue from multiple viewpoints.

If your into secret societies and symbolism I suggest K-rhino's "Grand Deception" a song that uses the symbols on the back of a dollar bill to expose America's Masonic history.

There is another good song by K-rhino called "The great Debate" that looks at the debate between creationism and evolution in the form of a rap.

R.A. the rugged Man discusses the horrors of the vietnam War from a first person perspective in his song "uncommon valor"

So check out these songs they can be accessed on youtube. Its easy to pigeonhole anything when you havent done enough research.

"Stop hating on hip hop. Listen to the messages and don't pay any attention to the videos."

well this would make sense if the message wasn't "act like sexist gangster drug user" I rarely find rap/hip hop music with some kind of meaningful message*besides Christan*. if it does its commonly found between "smoke that dope","Pimp that h*e" or "shoot that gun". the message its sending out(mainly to the young listeners) is that its cool to do the above things. but, I digress.

Rap is truly the most demonic musical "art" form that exists. It is truly of the Devil whose only purpose is to kill, steal and to destroy. Rap is a cancer being visited upon a generation who has turned their nose up at God. But what one sows, one reaps. When these kids listen to this garbage they shall surely reap the bitter harvest.

Change the station.
What you call "degredation" is called modernization.
"Cash" has been buying "hoes" for "pleasure" since the dawn of man. Nowadays women have a bit more of a choice, and many of them choose yes. Mainstream hip hop is nothing worse than turning history into a song. As for the violent raps, they're just relaying to you what's going on anyway. The fact that you don't realize it until you hear a rap song related to it is your fault.

Anonymous said...

Rap has to end someday. Everyone thinks it's black people's music. It isn't. R n B is but when you add hip hop or rap to R n B it ruins it. I stick to Motown,Funk,Blues,Disco and lots of the good music Blacks have created. Hip Hop/Rap "fashion" is not good because it stereotypes people and makes them look silly. The saggin pants really was how men who wanted sex with men in prison dressed. They'd pull their pants down to their butt whenever they needed to have anal penetration and it stuck. So really saggin is about wanting to be penetrated anally.

As a gay man, Black men who truly despise and loath us have loathed themselves because most of them are taught to hate themselves either from their church or from a distorted view of how a man should act. In their view, "real" men don't ever have sex with men. If these "real" men do, they have to be the dominating partner sexually.
Also the denigration of feminity in black culture is truly pathetic. Women are degraded as "hoes" and "bitches" and other not so kind words. So in the prison terms, a gay man unfortunately is treated as a "punk" or a "bitch" which really is disgusting.

Many "rap" and "hip hop" tunes have a lot of homophobic and misogynist lyrics. Sadly people listen to these and believe them and think it's just an extension of the already put into their minds, homophobic quotes from their churches bible.

True African culture actually honored Gay Men and Lesbians in their spiritual practices, not unlike my Native American ancestors, respected the sacred femininity in men. With Islam,Judaism and Christianity killing their identity to their culture, Africans have now been violent and intolerant of Gay Men and Lesbians.
When will the hate end in Black culture against Gays and Lesbians?

When will a Gay Black man stand up and speak against this self oppression?

rap and hip hop suck they all rap about the same thing I hear the same crap in every song and sometimes they use different words to say the same thing you know. girls, sex, drugs, gangs, and much worse stuff O well good news rock music will live on forever and rap and hip hip are dying why do you think we have so many different forms of it not all of it talks about emo stuff and not all of it has people screaming in it ether. I got nothing against country music ether it just gives me a headache but I would rather listen to that all day than rap or hip hop. ps to all of you that drive by with your loud speakers I don't want to hear what you are playing turn it down. god do you people not have respect for anyone and I also belive that white people are not the racist ones anymore cause we are the minortiy now for one there are more african americans in the usa than anything else I get beat up and mistreated just cause I am white I want to turn around and call them racist sometimes things sure have come along why I like to add little known fact they teach in school white people did not come in the jungles of africa looking for natives they were brung to us by local vilage leaders in africa and traded them to us african were betryed by there own people and learders. I am sorry I went way off topic one more thing atleast when a rock band uses hip hop or rap in there music they use it for good like Linkin Park just to name one of many.

Well, I would have to agree with 99% of the people here. Rap is a terrible genre of music. I mean, i can't even listen to it,I feel like if Im locked in a city with thousands of buildings and a terrible traffic. And believe me this is not only a problem to the blacks in the U.S. Im from Colombia, and back in my country most of the teens my age listen to Reggaetton, which is kind of a spanish rap. And it's really the same crap as with Rap: drugs, sex, violence, etc. And it's just sad. The music influences them so badly, they know tend to smoke weed and do a bunch of things promoted by that music. And because of he idiots of my classmates, Colombia is still gonna be known in the future for being a drug place, and just giving us bad image.

I couldn't agree more with the most of you. And it doesn't help that most people who listen to rap seem like insanely unintelligent douche bags.

Anonymous said...

First of all those of you who don't like rap/hip-hop music in the first place shouldn't try to overwhelm people with your bias against rap music. I admit most of rap has sex, drugs, etc. but most rappers speak about more than that. There are a lot of rappers giving others a bad name. Some rappers try to uplift people and send a positive message. Like Nas for example. Sure he speaks of sex, drugs and things like that but he tells stories of the things he experienced living in the ghetto and what not. He also has a few songs that show how black women get lost, how the country literally shits on its people, etc. Lupe Fiasco is another example. You can't just pick 2 or 3 rappers and say everybody else sucks. Saying all rap is bad is like saying all black people are from the ghetto. All black young men are criminals. If they have dreads that means they are dangerous. All white girls do more promiscuous things than black girls. All Japanese girls are like ones in manga. All rock songs are just a noisy guitar with people screaming. All Christians are bigots, and throw rocks at anybody they can. All blondes are stupid. Yadda Yadda Yadda... Also don't blame rap music for selling violence. Violence, Sex, drugs... Blind people look around. Its everywhere. So saying that hip hop is the ONLY genre that promotes evil things is stupid. Don't think I like the whole genre either. There are so many people messing up rap's image. All in all what I am trying to say is that if you look in the right places rap isn't that bad. Of course people online go to the extreme and pick the worst examples to make others conform to their bias views. Just because they hate something personally they think they have the right to make other people think like they do. One of the downsides of the internet. Well at least people aren't like Fox News. Oh wait...

If you think you hate an entire genre of music, you simply haven't listened to enough of it. Odds are there are something on the order of 10-12 artists in any given genre nowadays that you'll like - they just may not be commercially successful.

If you want to have an informed opinion about music that's worth listening to, it's like everything else - you have to stop being lazy.

I know most of you wont read this, but i think you should.   ... What really irritates me is that the people that comment on posts that are against rap, always say the same thing.."all rap Sounds the same" .. "rap only talks about drugs, sex, and violence." most of them are older people who despise any type of music except they're music that they think everybody else should listen to or they're overly protective parents that tell their kids what they can and can't listen to.... If you look back throughout history, the older generation always critics or hates the music that the younger generation listens to.. Yes, even your rock was considered the "devil's music".. Also, I do not think that any  anything is considered the devils.. Only if we worship it over  God. It also annoys me that the people that protest and comment that rap is okay, are usually teens that can't spell worth their life, and have the grammar of a two year old...okay It just makes us people people that like rap look stupid and illiterate..... . Yes, rap does have a lot of cussing, sexual content, drug references, and violence, and um cockiness or "boastfullness",  but there is usually a deeper meaning to the song. Look at country-a lot of songs talk about sex. And most of them are way too proud or cocky.. I personally do not like Most country although I do like a number of songs..Heavy metal or screamo also talks about violence or suicidal thoughts. And some drugs as well..if you can even understand what theyre saying.... So it is pretty harsh to single  out rap.. (I personally hate screamo).. Most Christians do not tolerate rap at all because of those five or so things I talked about earlier.. They say "people that listen to rap end up in prison or drug dealers, sexual harrasers, or homeless people... That is not to at all.it's like if A person that does not listen to rap, but eats 10 bananas a day might someday end up in prison..so you people are saying is that the 10  bananas a day had led him to prison..ALSO, what really pisses me off is when people say rapping takes no talent. Or it's not even music.. Okay, you go try to talk that fast, with a beat, and everything rhyming.. . Then some people will say " I don't give a sh*t about listening to someone's problem that I don't even connect with.. But some people do
Have hard lives and listening to others stories might encourage them. ..also, most rap music gets people pumped up and excited before sports games.. Most athletes would probably fall asleep before their game if they were listening to Bob Seager or someone.. (I also hate metal. It does not pump you up at all).... Everytime one listens to they're favorite songs, it sort of stirs some emotion, a certain memory, mabe of some exciting or important event that occured in their life.. .. But most people who loathe rap haven't even taken the chance to listen to the lyrics. Lil Wayne has the most creative and random lyrics ever. You have to be pretty imaginative to
Think of that kind if stuff.. I know this is kind off topic, but Christians (btw I am a born again person and try to live for God) say drinking and smoking marijuana is evil and from the devil... I think some Christians are too hard on some stuff..but anyways rap is the new thing and most people listen to it because they like it.. People who do not like rap should listen to it.. If they don't like the sound of it, fine, that's their opinion  I hate screamo.. It annoys me so much.. I personally enjoy listening to rap/hip hop music. I like to feel up, happy and lively, not sad, depressed, or bored like some songs make you feel..idk, maybe some people like listening to suicidal thoughts and death, not me.. I also like techo music. It always ups my mood as well..so to all you people who hate rap,, I do not think it has a derogatory effect on ones mind..so you listen to what you want, and we will listen to what we want.... Thank you for reading this I know it was kind of long lol
