An Interview With Donna Edwards
Donna Edwards talks with Amy Goodman about her Congressional Primary victory over longtime Congressional Black Caucus member Albert Wynn for the seat in Marylands 4th Congressional district.
Edwards ran a grassroots campaign on an anti-war, and pro-accountability platform. The people of her district clearly wanted change. Some see her victory as a test for what may happen in other Congressional districts in November.
I wish other Congressional seats held by CBC members were in competitive districts. Unfortunately most CBC members are in safe districts, allowing them to continue their status quo politics without any consequences.

Angry!?
Angry???
Angry?!?!?!
You say that the district wanted "change"!!!
You say that you wish that other members of the CBC had "competitive districts"???
Can I ask you a question - What CHANGE did this district veer to except FURTHER TO THE LEFT?
We are an 80 percent Democratic district, and I’m going to use the time between now and January 2009, when I’m sworn into the next congress, to build an agenda that will work for our congressional district and set us on a new path for the country. And so, I’m excited about that.
80%? As is Baltimore, Cleveland, Philadelphia, New Orleans, Detroit. She could go on a long trip to Jamaica though the campaign as the "Black General Election has already taken place" AND STILL WIN.
But Angry - what EXACTLY has CHANGED in this district?
he people of the Fourth District in Maryland stood up against corporate special interests that are determining what kind of healthcare we have or we don’t, that are determining our energy policy. They were saying no to the corporate special interests and yes to the public interest.
Yet another anti-corporate left wing Democrat. Where as the 4th of Maryland has enough wealth to suffer through her foolishness - areas like the one's I have listed above have been DESTROYED by her ideology. It is symbolic that the newly elected member of the 4th District does her first major interview with an ULTRALEFT WING news outlet like Democracy Now.
This was a sign that any Black politician who strays too far from the LEFT WING EXTREME position of the CBC and the prevailing ideology of the Black Political Machine will be punished.
I wonder if she will go to the wealthy Blacks in her district and tell them that THEY ARE DIRTY FROM THE 'CORPORATE MONEY' that they receive in their handsome paychecks.

Conservative Feedback,
I was referring to the Democratic Primary.... but it could also apply to the General election as well. I wish these Congressional seats were more competitive, both in terms of the primaries and the general elections.
Most large urban areas tend to go for Democrats.... so that's not news.
We don't disagree on the point that the incumbents in these seats have become self serving... In this case... it is the Democrats. But you won't be able to convince me that a Republican is the answer to that problem. The Republicans only represent the other side of the same corrupt "do nothing" coin.
It is due to all of the phony gerrymandering that both parties have done.
A better solution would be to allow more political diversity (more political parties).
As for Edwards... her constituents obviously disagree with you. They have a right to choose who they want to represent them in Washington. I'd say, give her a chance to do the job.
