Allen West: Keith Ellison Represents ‘The Antithesis Of The Principles Upon Which This Country Was Established’ (Updated)
During a recent episode of The Shalom Show, host Richard Peritz asked freshman Rep. Allen West (R-FL) how he planned to cope with regular interactions with political opponents, in particular Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN), who the host described as someone that “supports Islam.” In his reply, West painted Ellison as someone who “really does represent the antithesis of the principles upon which this country was established”:
PERITZ: Since you’re with a new crowd, people you haven’t really met before, and will be very closely associating with in the future, including Keith Ellison, who supports Islam, how will you manage that, if I may ask, because it’s not really easy to be polite with individuals one totally disagrees with, which I believe may be the case.
WEST: Well I think it’s most important that I stand upon the principles that people elected me to go to Washington, DC and represent them on Capitol Hill. So that when you run into someone that is counter, or someone that really does represent the antithesis of the principles upon which this country was established, you’ve got to be able to defeat them intellectually in debate and discourse, and you to just have to be able to challenge each and every one of their assertions very wisely and very forthright.
Just what values doesn't Congressman Ellison represent? The commitment to public service? The commitment to family? The commitment to community?
Just what values is West talking about?
In case West doesn't know his American history, here are some of the principles upon which this country was founded: the genocide of the Native Americans, and that his Black behind would be considered 3/5ths of a human being. Are THOSE the principles that Ellison doesn't represent?
Update Ellison respond to ThinkProgress's reporting with a statement: "I was surprised to hear of Congressman West's comments because he has never expressed these sentiments to me directly. Contrary to the views expressed by Congressman West, I work to represent the highest ideals of our great nation - Ideals like freedom of worship and respect for all faiths, equal protection under the law as well as a civil and open public discourse. I call on Americans of all colors, cultures and faiths to turn to each other, not on each other, especially in the renewed spirit of finding a more respectful and productive public dialogue. Americans across the country want their public servants to reject the toxic and corrosive chatter that yields more heat than light. I hope to have a productive and respectful dialogue with all of my colleagues, including Allen West."
Get that...West can talk all big and bad when he's on the radio, talking to right-wing nutjobs, but he's not man enough to say this garbage to ELLISON'S FACE.
What a punk.
We have written about Allen West before here at MOA:
Allen West Needs to go somewhere and sit down
Read this and be reminded of the company Allen West keeps.

This man scares me. Also troubling that he actually commanded troops.
I wish we had reporters with backbone in this Country who could corner Boehner & Cantor and force them to either officially endorse West's statement (by their silence or avoidance of the question) or renounce it.
But the news media folks seem to be spineless. They allow Republicans to get away with this nonsense constantly. If a Progressive utters anything remotely close to this... it's the lead story for the next month...until someone either gets fired or resigns. Republicans, on the other hand, seem to get away with this w/ impunity.
Did you hear Palin's crazy comments regarding the SOTU? I of course wasn't impressed by the SOTU, but her comments were ridiculous... w/ little merit.
Bachmann was just as bad.
It was incredible how she attempted to attribute the unemployment rate from 2009 (a lagging indicator) to Obama, when the job losses were a direct result of Bush's recession, which started in 2007, and the financial collapse in the Fall of 2008.... all under Bush. They are still pushing this narrative...and the media allows them to get away with it unchallenged.
AI,
they are both idiots.
Caribou Barbie didn't know what ended the Soviet Union.
And Bachmann's ' the founding fathers ended slavery' comment -
they are both complete idiots.
You just have to wear out the mute button...:/
