Honestly, seriously, what about this does not sound threatening? As an African-American, it's been chilling and unprecendented to hear people like Huckabee joke about Barack Obama, a presidential candidate, ducking from gunfire or Bill O'Racist O'Reilly imply that Michelle Obama should be lynched.
Can you imagine if people were saying the same things about George W. Bush or John Kerry during the 2004 race? My God, when did propriety, decency and a sense of responsibility leave the table? Oh and if anyone was still wondering if there would be an Obama/Clinton ticket? Yeah, I think this probably puts the last nail in that coffin.
From BlackPoliticsontheWeb.com:
- In an interview with the Sioux Falls Argus-Leader, Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Hillary Clinton made the following comments about staying in the race:
“”My husband did not wrap up the nomination in 1992 until he won the California primary somewhere in the middle of June, right? We all remember Bobby Kennedy was assassinated in June in California. I don’t understand it.”
The campaign of Sen. Barack Obama, through spokesman Bill Burton replied, “Senator Clinton’s statement before the Argus Leader editorial board was unfortunate and has no place in this campaign.”
Matt Stoller on OpenLeft writes:
Howard Wolfsen clarified:
"Clinton spokesman Howard Wolfson defended the comments to The Post, 'She was talking about the length of the race and using the '68 election as an example of how long the races in the past have gone -- she used her husband's race in the same vein.'"
In some sense, what he's saying is right. The call to drop out is premature by the standards of the 1992 and 1968 race. But her staying in the race has no precedent, since in both of those cases the race was not decided. It's not like Hubert Humphrey was waiting around in case someone went off and shot RFK, or Bill Clinton was hoping he could convince superdelegates to override the will of the voters in a clearly losing strategy. There were still primaries going on that could have a significant impact on the outcome of the race.
2004 is a better analogy. Did John Edwards or Howard Dean wait around, musing that perhaps John Kerry would be killed, even though he was clearly going to lock up the majority of the delegates? Of course not. They lined up behind the winner.
It's a doubly unfortunate reference given what the Kennedy family is going through as we speak. I am frankly shocked and disgusted by this statement and call upon the Clinton campaign to clarify and apologize immediately. The Wolfsen statement is inadequate given the horror of the analogy.

From Blacks4Barack...ACTION TIME !!!!!!!!!
Demand To DNC: Kick Hillary Out NOW !
Insinuates That Obama Could Be ASSASINATED !
Now, things have gone way too far. Today, in an appearance in South Dakota, Hillary Clinton justified her reason for staying in the campaign by referring to the fact that presidential hopeful 'Robert Kennedy was assasinated in June'...implying that the same could occur to Senator Obama. THIS IS SICK !!! Regardless of how the pundits try to spin this as just another misspeak, the statement speaks for itself and displays the diobolical mentality of Hillary Clinton.
It is unclear as to whether she is actually hoping that Obama would be killed, therefore giving her an open path to the Democratic nomination, or if she may be signaling her desire to some sick, warp minded homicidal maniac. Whichever be the case, her statement is automatic grounds for the Democratic National Committee headed by Howard Dean to demand that she remove herself from the race. If he does not, American Democrats should demand HIS stepping down !
This can not be tolerated!!! Regardless of who you are a supporter of, Hillary, Obama or McCain, ANYONE who would wish the death of another human being in order to win a political position is sick, dangerous, maniacal, deranged and totally mentally and morally unfit for any political position, particularly President or V.P. of the United States.

Until she made the original offensive remarks yesterday, followed by her pathetic explanation for the remarks_I thought there was a possiblity (albeit very slim) that Barack might offer her the VP slot IF he thought she would bolster his chances to win.
Needless to say, that slim chance (if it existed?) is long gone now!
In fact, Hillary may have even destroyed her entire political career this time? Time will tell.
But it seems the depth of their (Bill and Hillary) DEPRAVED indifference, very publicly displayed for all the world to see, in their blind quest for Absolute power is second only to the depravity of George W. Bush, Karl Rove and Dick Cheney.
...and the Clintons were "this" close to getting back in the White House again...
What a revelation!
I almost passed out when I heard this story come over the wires the other night. Astonishing!
So she's holding out in case Obama is assassinated.... in June. Wow. Or she's holding onto hope that he will be, so that she can get the nomination.
2 possibilities here...
#1. Either she intended to do this to rattle the Obama folks... which would be really sick.
#2. She was extremely clumsy in her choice of words/in her example.
But if this is the case, it calls into question all of her "experience" and good judgement. An experienced, skilled politician knows not to go there...or at least they know how to navigate the political landscape to such a degree that they do not make this kind of "gaffe" (as the media is calling it), no matter how tired, fatigued, etc. This is especially true when you understand the context of this Presidential year...and all that has been going on.
This takes me back to #1...because I find it hard to believe that she didn't know what she was doing or the context in which she was doing it. This is one of the more clever politicians in Washington. I find it hard to believe that now, all of a sudden, she is unaware of the Political Universe around her.
Look at the context...the factors that are specific to this campaign season. And the backdrop in terms of where we are on the Calendar.
Here we have a candidate, Barack Obama, for whom WE KNOW has been receiving a large amount of threats, often connected to his race. This has been covered by everyone from CNN to 60 Minutes. We know that the Secret Service had to beef up his security because of the special circumstances.
That backdrop alone should have signaled Clinton to avoid that territory. But no... the backdrop is even thicker and clearer than that.
We are in a Country with a history of political/racial assassinations. We are in the middle of the anniversaries of Dr. King, and RFK's assassinations. King's took place last month.
There are just too many detour signs that should have alerted Hillary not to turn down that road. But she did it anyway...
It also sounded as if...she was hopeful that something would take place. And her "anything could happen" mantra is just creepy. It sounds like a veiled threat. It reminds me of her "as far as I know" crap, regarding that Obama photo, right before the Ohio Primary. That double meaning nonsense just drives me crazy. And this is coming from a person who I wouldn't trust for anything in the World.
This also comes with the Vincent Foster Murder in the backdrop.... a case that has never been explained to my satisfaction. This man died under extremely suspicious circumstances...and it just so happened, that he was the one man who had all sorts of inside information about the Clinton's dealings...and was the one man who could have provided investigators with incriminating information. But he ended up dead before he could provide information. Who wants to rob a law office? Criminals don't typically drive around looking for Law offices to Burglarize, Rob, etc.
Her comments could also be taken as a roundabout signal to some of her wacko racist supporters.... hey... if you take action, then I can get the nomination. That's what her vague, double meaning statements have the potential to do. And it's dangerous. These are people who already would like to see it happen...and may even want to do it themselves. Now she offers an enticement.
When you put all of these things together... the whole episode is mind boggling. This is why I almost fainted when I heard the report.
Hi Rikyrah,
Just in case you didn't see it already, Liz Trotta - a Fox Noise contributor - is also suffering from the foot-in-mouth syndrome of casually endorsing an Obama assassination.
These people continue to amaze me.
