About Libya and the No-Fly Zone

about Libya:

my whole thing is, from the beginning - this is NOT our problem.

I know enough about politics and Geopolitics, especially OIL-based politics.

here's the thing - this is NOT ' our' oil.

this is Europe's oil.
this is China's oil.

we BARELY have diplomatic relations with Libya, and somehow, it's OUR problem?

puleeze.

I was watching Roland Martin's show, and how come it's up to the Black folks to break it down. NOWHERE ELSE did I hear it broken down like it was on his panel today.

1. why is this US's problem?
2. How come the ARABS can't enforce the NO-FLY ZONE? they have enough weapons...how do we know this? WE SOLD IT TO THEM.
3. how is it with us barely having diplomatic relations with Libya, does it fall on THIS President.

Cynthia Tucker said it - we only have diplomatic relations with Libya because of George W. Bush...so, if this is anyone's problem, it's HIS.

I am disappointed in our involvement in this, but I don't blame the President, and I'm not going crazy like other folks, mainly because everything that had to happen in order for this President to actually AGREE to this - happened. So, what's the man supposed to do?

I think that the Arab League was shocked that folks took them seriously...AND AT THEIR WORD that they wanted a NO-FLY ZONE. IMO, they thought that the old reliables - CHINA and/or RUSSIA would provide the objecting vote on the Security Council, and then they'd be able to go ' oh well, we wanted a NO-FLY ZONE, but it didn't make it out of the Security Council'. When the abstentions happened, and the NO-FLY Zone passed, they went ' OH SHIT'. Now, we have these suckers trying to do the backtrack to which I say - HELL TO THE NAW on that.

I am not happy, but there are some things in which I'm tired of folks trying to hang on this President, especially when it comes to foreign policy. I don't want no damn Cowboy. I want someone who gets that folks in the rest of the world should have the option for self-determination, even if it's messy. I believe this President understands that.

The UN Issues Its Report on the War In Gaza

The UN investigation concluded that Israels conduct in the war was "Reckless".

Israel "purposely" bombed a school and other locations where civilians were known to be.

Why no war crimes investigation? Of course we know the U.S. would block it.

This is why I try to point out to the folks who are screaming about the U.S. losing the moral high ground regarding torture....that the U.S. lost its moral high ground a long time ago by engaging in unjust wars and blindly supporting Countries like Israel. The U.S. has lost much more of its moral authority with these types of strategic foreign policy choices.

The U.N. Conference on Racism - WHY AREN'T WE GOING TO BE THERE?

I was listening to Dr. Michael Fauntroy on the local Black talk radio station, when a caller asked if The United States was going to send a delegation to the United Nations Conference on Racism. Dr. Fauntroy said that there were no plans to send a delegation to the conference at this time. Then, Dr. Fauntroy said something that I hadn't known :

A delegation from the Congressional Black Caucus was going to go, and they have been ORDERED

FUCKING ORDERED not to go by Nancy Pelosi.

EXCUSE ME?

EXCUSE ME?

Some bogus ass pretense of an ' important vote'. Fuck that. I don't believe that bogus excuse and neither do you.

We aren't going because of our 51st State, because they were critical of Israel-That Zionism is racism. Israel doesn't want the language in there, then they shouldn't have left the table in Durbin. But, you did, and they issued it, so if you disagree, come to the table and discuss things.

Our slavish devotion to being the minion of our 51st state does not serve this country well, in the least. I'm tired of AIPAC running American foreign policy.

It is patently absurd that the United States will not be at the U.N. Conference on Racism for a SECOND TIME.

U.S. officials say the United States will not participate in a United Nations conference on racism this year unless a draft version of the meeting's final report is drastically changed.

The U.S. State Department issued a statement Friday about the World Conference Against Racism, saying U.S. representatives will be unable to attend the conference, due to open in about two months (April 20-25) in Geneva.

The draft of a final document for the conference has already been circulated among U.N. member nations. The State Department said the draft in its current form is not salvageable. American envoys say it would limit freedoms of religion and speech and would unfairly label Israel's policies as racist.

Now, let me get this straight. We're threatening to boycott this conference because of ISRAEL?

ISRAEL?

G-T-F-O-H.

Here we go again, letting the 51st state dictate foreign policy for this country.

Why?

Because they were TELLING THE TRUTH ABOUT ISRAEL?

Why do I feel AIPAC's hands ALL OVER THIS?

Rahm Emmanuel's hands all over this?

Yet another story about this unhealthy alliance (unhealthy mostly for the American side). Israel calls the shots for U.S. policy... tells the U.S. how to vote in the UN Security Council. And the U.S. responds like an obedient, subservient slave and does exactly what it is told.

New Darfur Documentary From PBS

A New Documentary on Darfur is now available from PBS. The 1 hour film, entitled "On Our Watch", can be viewed online. Watch Film.

Also watch the documentary on the 1994 Rwandan genocide, entitled "The Ghosts of Rwanda". I have seen this documentary several times and I have posted it here before. "The Ghosts of Rwanda" is one of the best documentaries that I have ever seen...and I watch a lot of documentaries.

After the Rwandan genocide, the world reiterated its pledge of "Never Again".

Watch the madness that Canadian General Romeo Dallaire had to deal with, both in Rwanda and with the UN.

It is clear that there is a disparity in terms of how the world reacts to genocide in Africa and how the world reacts to genocide everywhere else. In 1999, the Clinton Administration was willing to spark WWIII to stop a relatively modest (although brutal) genocide in Kosovo. I believe the response would be similar for any such event in Europe. Yet the World seems to have a clear double standard when it comes to genocide involving dark and poor people around the Globe, especially Africans.

It is clear that Africans are at the bottom of the World's list when it comes to how they are viewed. It is clear that Africans are considered by much of the World to be of lesser value as human beings. This has been clear for decades, but these recent events have highlighted and cemented these sentiments in such a way that they leave no doubt as to where Africans stand in the World.

And one striking irony in the Darfur documentary was China's efforts to ignore the crisis. Yet when it comes to China's own genocide in the 1930's and 40's at the hands of the Japanese, then all of a sudden China wants the World's sympathy and understanding.
