The 'Gate Crashers' at the State Dinner....symptom of something more serious?

Now, I was never a fan of Dubya, but fact is...he was President of the United States. And, I never could get the explanation as to why this man wasn't riddled full of bullets. The first shoe was bad enough, but that he was allowed to get off the second one without a bullet in him made no sense. There could have been any kind of chemical or biological weapon on the shoe. I know, I sound like an episode of 24, but you know these types of weapons exist.

Maybe it was because Bush's popularity was so low by that point that the seriousness of the situation didn't get the attention it deserved. Maybe I missed it, but I don't remember reading about any inquiries where the Secret Service is concerned. Maybe there was, and someone lost their job on the Presidential Detail - I hope so.

Which brings me to the ' Gate Crashers' at the State Dinner.

In case you don't know the story, two folks wound up 'CRASHING' the State Dinner. Whether they are reality show contestants or not, they were able to crash the State Dinner. This story has never been funny or amusing to me. It's dangerous.

Barack Obama Assassination Thwarted

Group caught in the operations stage of plot to kill Barack Obama.

This is another reason why the grand acceptance speech at Invesco Field may not have been well thought out... at least not from a practical point of view. It is going to be a security nightmare in terms of logistics, coordination, etc.

The nuts are coming out of the woodwork... and I have a feeling that this is only the beginning. The USSS will have to come up with a different program for protecting Obama and his family. Business as usual is probably not going to be sufficient.

Luckily good old fashioned police work revealed this plot, and hopefully all of the suspects are in custody.

I also hope that the USSS and the FBI have taken the proper countermeasures.

Man Arrested For Threatening Obama's Life

Federal authorities in Florida are holding a man accused of threatening to assassinate Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama.

The man, Raymond Hunter Geisel, was ordered held without bail at a Thursday court hearing.

The Secret Service says Geisel made the threat while training to be a bail bondsman in Miami in late July. A search of Geisel's SUV and hotel room uncovered a loaded handgun, knives, dozens of rounds on ammunition, boy armor, and a machete. The SUV was also wired with emergency lights.

Geisel claims he's originally from Bangor, Maine. He said he made no threat against either Obama or the president.
