From Bloomberg:
Obama Gets Credit for Jobs in Michigan Where Voters Disapprove

Wes Smith probably would have lost his family-owned company if it weren’t for one of President Barack Obama’s signature economic policies: the $82 billion bailout of General Motors Co. (GM) and Chrysler Group LLC.
“I could be out of business,” Smith said. “Do I think about that often? Absolutely.”
Instead, E&E Manufacturing Co., the Plymouth, Mich., auto- parts maker Smith’s father-in-law founded in 1962, is rebounding from the depths of the financial crisis. Annual sales of about $75 million are up about 50 percent from their nadir. The company has added about 70 jobs since employment bottomed at 280, down from a pre-crisis high of 480.
E&E’s resurgence is part of a broader auto-industry comeback that analysts say vindicates the government’s activism in financing and arranging the 2009 GM and Chrysler bankruptcies.
While Republicans assailed the intervention as evidence of Obama’s addiction to state-centric solutions, the industry has added almost 133,000 U.S. jobs since its 2009 low point, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. And the U.S. government has recovered all but $1.3 billion of the $12.5 billion it spent to prop up Auburn Hills, Michigan-based Chrysler, now controlled by Italy’s Fiat SpA, and almost half of the $49.5 billion devoted to GM in Detroit.
“It was one of the better policy responses to the financial panic and recession,” said Mark Zandi, chief economist at Moody’s Analytics Inc. in West Chester, Pennsylvania. The auto industry “is one of the more powerful sources of growth in the recovery.”
Political Dividends
One thing the industry’s Lazarus-like revival hasn’t done, however, is pay political dividends for Obama.
“I have no faith in this administration,” said Smith, 55, criticizing what he said is the president’s failure to encourage corporate investment in the U.S.
The sour grapes aren’t limited to Republicans such as Smith. In the latest EPIC-MRA poll of Michigan voters, 65 percent gave Obama a negative job-performance rating -- worse than the 50 percent disapproval mark in the latest national Gallup poll. Even a majority of traditionally Democratic union households in Michigan gave Obama a thumbs-down.
James Mead, 46, hired as a welder after six months of unemployment, shrugs at the president’s role in saving companies like his new employer.
“I think it’s something the government had to do,” he said in an interview. “If they didn’t and the auto industry collapsed, we would have had a depression.”
DID YOU LET THAT STORY SINK IN?
Now, let’s go at this article, bit by bit.

WHAT-THE-FUCK?
This cretin wouldn’t even have a BUSINESS if it weren’t for this President, and he thinks he can open up his mumbling mouth about the ‘ President’s failure to encourage corporate investment in the US’?
OH HELL NO.
This is part of the Unbearable Whiteness of Being.
Because, ONLY A WHITE PERSON, who wouldn’t have had a pot to piss in, can have the nerve to open his mouth and criticize the BLACK MAN WHO SAVED HIS ASS.
Make no mistake, Barack Obama..
PRESIDENT BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA
Is who saved the American Auto Industry.
HE stuck his neck out and put his belief in that government could help save a vital industry in this country. One of the last bastions of actual manufacturing in this country.
And this man has the nerve to utter a criticism of the President that saved HIS LIVELIHOOD?
Surreal.
IF George Bush, or ANY OTHER WHITE PRESIDENT, had been the one responsible for saving his company, he’d be talking about their asses being on Mount Rushmore.
But, he has the gall, to think he can utter criticism, of the BLACK MAN who is President of the United States.
Say what you want about Black folks, but we do NOT have the LUXURY OF DELUSION that White people have. Black folk, vote what they perceive to be their economic interest. So, even though FDR set up Social Security and allowed for the discrimination against Black workers by giving into Dixiecrat demands about the exclusion of certain professions that were dominated by Black folks, Black people understood, that overall, what the New Deal was giving, was better than what they had been getting during the Great Depression. It wasn’t a whole loaf, but 3 slices beats the nothing on the plates that they had been getting.
It wouldn’t even cross a Black person’s mind, if they knew EXACTLY why they were employed/ kept their business going – to go around badmouthing the person whose policies that made it happen.
I guess the owner of the company was of the mentality of this idiot employee:
James Mead, 46, hired as a welder at E&E after six months of unemployment, shrugs at the president’s role in saving companies like his new employer.
“I think it’s something the government had to do,” he said in an interview. “If they didn’t and the auto industry collapsed, we would have had a depression.”
We all know that Mr. Mead doesn’t read, because, if he did, like his boss, he’d know that there wasn’t a single major Republican in favor of saving the American Auto Industry.
So, who do you think felt that government HAD to do something?
THE DEMOCRATS.
He SHRUGS at the President’s role?
Really.
He wasn’t unemployed long enough.
When folks talk about folks not voting in their best economic interests, I wish they would make it clear. They sure in hell aren’t talking about NON-WHITE folk in America.
NON-WHITE people in America understand their economic interests.
It’s middle-class, working –class White folk that need to be called out.
See, I’m wondering why those folks marching in Ohio, and Wisconsin, and Michigan and Florida thought the GOP was talking about ‘someone else’, when they were denigrating and disrespecting working Americans.
They only thought they were talking about Black people. Or Brown people.
Certainly not ‘good White folk’ like themselves.
Then, they got hit with the 2x4 upside the head with the REALITY of, oh yeah, THIS MEANS YOU.
It must be wonderful to wrap yourself in the LUXURY OF DELUSION that this business owner and his idiot employee share. The LUXURY OF DELUSION that can only come from White folks in America.

SMH...I say let them fall behind in logic and hope they don't come anywhere near a ballot box!
The vast majority of White folk don't even understand that they are born into privilege (particularly White men) by virtue of the very color of their skin.
No mistake, though, not all of us White folk are blind to the delusion you describe so eloquently here. Keep up the great work!
Unbelievable. But Conservative media has been able to effectively spin the message that Obama is to blame for employers not wanting to hire (sitting on trillions of dollars)... for corporations sending jobs overseas, and they have created the expectation that a President can somehow magically improve conditions in the private sector by forcing business owners to add workers. It's easy for a Gov't/President to screw things up for an economy.... But it is much harder for a President to fix it once it's broken because of the limited tools... and especially with a Congress Hell bent on working against him so that they can get re-elected. The approval numbers are largely the result of the economy...and unfortunately whichever party is in power usually takes the hit...whether they deserve it or not. American voters don't pay much attention to details to determine which party is working for their interests. But it's not just the economy. This is also a result of a shrewd (effective) media strategy on the part of Republicans/Conservatives. As a result, Obama is seeing his numbers drop in States all across the Country. This is why I believe 2012 will look more like 2000 & 2004...not the blowout of 08.
Progressives are partly to blame for not doing more to fight the false/misleading narratives...
Where does it say that the people described in the article are white?
If the news reportts a rape, and a white person assumes the rapist was black; that's racist. What does it makes all of this?
