Freedom of speech is not an absolute right. Conduct that has no artistic merit but is done simply to breach the peace is not protected under our Constitution. The use of a noose can be considered an assault under some circumstances. Stop pontificating with bad law.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21083673.post-22236142553721014112007-09-20T09:59:00.000-07:002007-09-20T09:59:00.000-07:00Hanging the nooses was an act of free speech that ...Hanging the nooses was an act of free speech that physically harmed no one. Assault is illegal and assault for racial reasons is a hate crime. See the difference?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21083673.post-10402667108339386772007-09-04T07:02:00.000-07:002007-09-04T07:02:00.000-07:00I think what the 3 White students did is absolutel...I think what the 3 White students did is absolutely outrages, I also think what the 6 black students did was outrages. The white Students who hung up the nooses in my opinion should be more harshly dealt with. Because it can only be taken as a direct threat. although it is covered under the freedom of speech. (This in now way though makes it in anyway exceptable.<BR/>I believe racial hate groups like the KKK and others give up their right of free speech when they make threats to others, and that the law should get passed the words or tools to communicate hate, and on too, what those words mean. When those words, or in this case Nooses is not "free speech" it is terrorism plain and simple. now as far as the white student that was beat up by the "Jena 6" was beat up for speaking up for his race, in an environment that had already become one of racial distress is also a threat to other white students, and much more then a threat, (Complete physical violence) is in no way excusable anymore then it would be if a black man supporting his race would be targeted and beat for his believes. (Remember, the student that got beat up was NOT one of the 3 who hung the noose) so what we have here is this. 3 white students that made explicit threats and brought terrorism to there school against Blacks. and should be dealt with as such......and.... 6 black students that brought threats and terror to white students along with physically beating the student. which also needs to be dealt with head first, and not try to hide behind a mask of it being ok, because some other white students did what they did.... it is those original 3 that deserved a beating not the innocent white student that took the punishment just because he was white. racism needs to be stopped Period....... and that goes both ways. let us not excuse, or make excuses for..the wrong doing from the 3 white students. or the 6 black ones. and lastly, there is a difference between the threat of violence and violence itself.one is terrorism, the other is terrorism backed by violent behavior. you are racist yourself by writing your page which tries to make the guilty 6 not guilty. and in that just as bad as the ones who let off the white students with a hand slap. when what should be done is to leave blame where blame lies, and thats with the 3 as well as the 6. I am a white male age 40, with a black Father, and 2 black Sisters. and a white Mom. and because of this know both sides well, and also know, that the only way for their ever to be equality between blacks and whites, is to treat both equally in their wrongs and their rights.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09065999613658217915noreply@blogger.com
