More than just the America that is published and celebrated in the media and popular culture, Studs Terkel chronicled the lives and gave voice to the perspectives or regular, ordinary Americans. Perhaps most amazingly, he did this all absent the vehicle of a political or ideological agenda but more to be true to giving voice to the concerns of ordinary people and letting them speak in their own voice. <BR/><BR/>In this election year where unprecedented attention was paid to the concerns of the Average Joe and Josephine, let us not forget that someone like Studs Terkel was already doing as his life's vocation for the past several decades.
